Revive Royd's Independence with a Wheelchair

Zambians with Disabilities

Royd is a devoted husband and father living in the Katete region of Eastern Zambia. He faces daily challenges due to his immobility: his previous wheelchair was beyond repair, leaving him unable to venture outside his own home or help his wife search for food and other essential supplies for their family. Being confined to his house didn’t just limit Royd physically — it weighed on his sense of purpose and his role as a husband and father, as he watched the burden of providing for the household fall entirely on his wife’s shoulders while he was unable to help.

The Process

Royd’s story resonated the moment it was shared: our supporters funded the full cost of a new wheelchair in less than a day. From there, our team purchased the wheelchair and made the trip to deliver it directly to Royd’s home in Katete, then circled back to the community of supporters who made it possible to share the news and pass along the family’s thanks.

The Results

A new wheelchair represents so much more than mobility for Royd — it’s the restoration of a father’s role, a husband’s partnership, and a man’s independence. With his mobility restored, Royd can once again get out of the house to help his wife search for food and supplies, easing a burden that had rested on her alone for far too long, and share in the daily life of his household and community again.

Watch below as Royd takes his new wheelchair for a spin for the first time. His tears of gratitude in the video say what words can’t: a physical limitation doesn’t have to define a person’s potential, dignity, or role in their own family.
